Mangawhai Golf Club is a valley course located in Northern New Zealand. The course consists of naturally undulated fairways that are lined by towering pines. The course has a mixture of double-tired, triple-tired and rock-hard greens. This was done in order to make the course challenging. Some of the holes within the course also consist of dunes, which help provide an overall sense of a links style course.

2nd Par 4 423 yards

2nd Par 4 423 yards (2)

2nd Par 4 423 yards (1)
The second hole consists of a sharp dogleg bend to the right. The landing area off the tee is relatively narrow. There is a dune on the right and the hazard along the left hand side. The green is elevated and slopes form back to front.

4th Par 3 160 yards

4th Par 3 160 yards (Back tee)

4th Par 3 160 yards (Front tee)
This par three is one of the easiest holes of this course. The views both from the regular tee and the back tee are completely different. Players should definitely check out both views since the green from both tees looks as if it’s an image captured straight from a postcard.

7th Par 4 412 yards
The seventh hole is a relatively straight and difficult par four that totals up to 412 yards. Players should look out for the creek that runs along the right side of the course. The second shot will require the ball to be hit on an uphill slope. Once on the green, players must be careful during putting as the triple-tiered green has strong undulations and slopes towards the right.

9th Par 5 504 yards
A relatively straight par five that requires the second shot to be hit on an uphill slope and a third shot to land safely on a double-tired green.

12th Par 5 542 yards
The twelfth hole is a straight par five and has undulating fairways. The third shot will require the ball to surpass an uphill slope and land on a double-tired green.

13th Par 3 148 yards
This next hole is a beautifully bowl-like designed par three that has a downhill tee shot. The green is double-tiered and slopes towards the right. Players will find it more difficult if the pin position is placed at the back since there is a bunker that guards the back left side, and a sharp-drop-off section on the right.

16th Par 3 379 yards (1)
A par four that is designed with a dogleg that bends to the right. The fairway bunker is reachable from the tee shot if players are able to hit 250 yards. The second shot is an uphill leap and there are bunkers on the front and left sections of the elevated double-tiered green.

18th Par 5 535 yards
This hole consists of a dogleg to the left with an uphill second shot.

IIt is an hour and a half drive to get to Mangawai Golf Club from Auckland city. Since the holes are measured in meters, I have taken the time to convert them into yards. There are some slot machines inside the clubhouse that both players and guests can enjoy after their play.

The Top 100 Golf Courses of the World (top100golfcourses.co.uk) ranks Managawhai Gold Club as the 33rd best course in New Zealand in 2016. It was ranked 20th in the top 25 courses in New Zealand by a panel of NZPGA Professionals and Golf Travel operators. There are 400 golf courses in New Zealand. The other Harry Dale designed courses in New Zealand are Onuma GC and Te Puke GC.
